Thank God It's Friday!

“Eyewitness” is our series at Fusion Christian Church about the Resurrection of Jesus Christ and the people who saw it happen. These were real people, in real moments, who had real encounters with Jesus. In Part 4, Pastor Zac teaches about the thieves who were crucified with Jesus. One chose repentance in his final moments while the other chose his sin.

Jesus did not die for His own sins, because He had none; He died for our sins.

The gospel is simple, but not always easy to accept. The trouble is that we don't want to accept that we are sinful. The bible is very clear that all humans are sinners by nature. Because of that, we all spend our lives accruing debt against God. The debt we owe comes from committing crimes against him, which is what we call sin. The punishment for sin is death, which is a problem most of us don't want to face! The beauty of the gospel is that Jesus came and lived the perfect life so that he could take our place on the cross. He deserved blessings but took punishment. We deserved his punishment, but got his blessings.

One thief held onto his sin to his last breath. The other turned to Jesus with his.

We are all, like the thieves, presented with a choice. We can either recognize our sin and turn to Jesus, or reject Jesus and choose our sin. One of the thieves realized he needed Jesus while on the cross. At some point, while he was hanging there, his heart changed and he chose to acknowledge Christ as his Lord. The other thief chose to deny Jesus in his final moments. His heart hardened as he hung on his cross. The choice to accept Christ is before you. Will you accept him?
