The Prophet Speaks

The Greatest Story Of All Time is our Christmas 2025 series at Fusion Christian Church. In this series we look at some of the ways God foreshadowed the Christmas story throughout the bible. For part 3, Pastor Zac talks about how Jesus speaks as a prophet and we need to listen.

Chapter 5 – The prophet speaks, and we must listen to Him.

Throughout redemptive history, God has used prophets to get his messages across to people. God had five main duties for his prophets.

  1. To preach his word - at the most basic level, God's prophets were to tell what God said.
  2. To confront sin - God's prophets were to call out the wickedness of the nations.
  3. To call people to repentance - beyond just pointing out the sin, doing so was meant to be coupled with encouragement to repentance.
  4. To announce either judgment or forgiveness - the prophets were to warn of impending judgment from God or to tell of his wrath turned away.
  5. To reveal God's present and future plans - God meant for his prophets to foretell of future events.

How does God speak?

There are two primary ways God speaks to us today. The first is through his word. The best way for us to know what God is saying is to read what he has written down for us in the scriptures. The second is through the Holy Spirit, who lives inside each believer and helps guide them in daily living. Beyond these, there are a few ways that God has given us to confirm what he has said. Great confirming voices are biblical preaching, prayer, worship, and godly counsel.

How do I hear from Jesus?

Here are three practical steps to hear what Jesus is saying and better apply what he says to your life:

  1. Stop listening to the mockers, haters, and dissension creators.
  2. Stop listening to your doubts and fears.
  3. Start listening to God’s word.

If you do these things you will be equipped to hear God speaking and put his words into practice.
