What Love Does
This is part 2 of "Love Your Neighbor," our series at Fusion Christian Church where we learn all about the different ways to show love for others. Here, in part 2, Pastor Zac takes us through the story of the woman at the well in John chapter 4, teaching us what Jesus did and did not do to show love for her.
Love doesn't quit when it's tired.
Many of us quit when we get tired, but when we love others we should push through until the work is done. Opportunity may come when we are tired and we cannot afford to miss it. Strive to grow a heart that says, "I'm not done until the mission is done." As Christians, we are to seize every opportunity and make the most of it. If we quit when we are tired then we will miss too many chances to show God's love to others.
Love doesn't assume they know.
Never assume that others know Jesus. Rather, assume they don't. From there, it is your duty to share the gospel. Sharing the gospel is the ultimate act of love. Our desire should be to reconnect and reconcile others with God, and the gospel is God's way of reaching out to us. If we will not share the gospel, we are making a decision for other people by not even giving them the chance to say, "no." Do not say someone else's "no" for them! Share the love of God through the gospel and give them the choice to come to God.
Love meets others where they are.
When Jesus met the woman at the well, he didn't require her to change her life first. Instead, he offered help from where she was when she met him. God finds us in our sin and chooses to offer us life. Nothing that we can do will ever be enough to pick ourselves up. We require God to come into our lives and pick us up himself instead. Whenever we present the gospel we should strive to offer it to people where they are at. Asking sinners to stop sinning before they come to Jesus is like asking a sick man to cure himself before he seeks a doctor. Encourage all to come to Jesus.
