Being On The Right Side
"The After Party" is our series at Fusion Christian Church on the book of Acts. Follow along as we explore what happened to the church after Jesus ascended to heaven. In this sermon, Pastor Zac walks through Acts 5 and teaches us how to be on God's team.
Ditch Team Jealous. Join Team Rejoice.
The Pharisees were jealous of the early church. The people in and around Jerusalem were abandoning their teaching and following the Apostles instead. They could not rejoice about what God was doing because they were on the wrong side. As Christians, we should always seek to rejoice in the good things that happen to those around us instead of giving in to jealousy. Here are three tests to see if you are struggling with jealousy. First, you feel bitter when others succeed. Second, you constantly compare yourself to others. Third, your "why not me?" is louder than your "thank you, Lord." Gratitude and rejoicing help keep us from becoming bitter, jealous, and envious.
Ditch Team Coward. Join Team Courage.
When the apostles were brought before the court of the Pharisees, they boldly told them that they must obey God first. God needs courageous people who will obey him even when it's uncomfortable or dangerous. Here are four signs that you might be submitting to fear. First, you let fear silence your faith. Second, you choose comfort over calling. Third, you hide behind excuses. Fourth, you care more about people’s approval than God’s. If any of these describe you, then you ought to pray that God gives you courage so that you will stand for him.
Ditch Team I Quit. Join Team Let’s Do This.
In Acts 5, the apostles were thrown into prison and beaten for preaching about Jesus. Later, they would go on to endure much worse, with some even being martyred. Many people would quit when thrown in prison or beaten the first time, but not the apostles. As Christians, we should take their story as inspiration and not shrink back in fear. Instead, we should say "Let's do this," and embrace the opposition no matter how it presents itself. What can you do to be more courageous with your faith?
